I Sang in Church

written by Jake Stilson

I sang in church for what it’s worth

they let me out for time served

I learned anything goes in love and war fare

I went to work so I could live

when I tried to live I had nothing to give

but I learned a thing or two about doing my share

I went to school so I could learn

but nobody knew how to teach

So I picked up a lot just hangin ‘round

Played guitar like thunderstruck

Played in the woods and got high in my truck

I sang a different tune and I had to sing it loud

I’ve worked a lot of jobs

and had a few real tough gigs

I’ve played a lot of shows for just a few

And I’ve seen people change their ways

Out of time and out of place

But no stones thrown ‘cause I know I’ve done it too
